Wet suits keep you dry. That's what they do. Not in the rain, although if somebody could invent an inexpensive, yet stylish, slip-on rain suit, I'm sure it would sell very well. Wet suits are for people who immerse themselves in cold water under various different circumstances. Designed initially for scuba divers and then popularized by surfers, the wet suit has evolved from a simple layer of protection from the wet and cold into a "system" that warms, protects and aids the swimmer, surfer or deep sea diver that uses them.

Heat moves from a warmer object to the colder object. This is one of the basic laws of physics and you can argue about it until the cows come home and it simply will not change. Knowing is no suit that can prevent the exchange, but the transfer of heat from your body to the water around you can be slowed long enough to allow a diver to enjoy a deep dive for a much longer time by using a wet suit. The amount of time it would take for a diver to suffer a serious loss of heat depends on his size, the temperature of the surrounding water, the diver's physical exertion and the insulation material in his wet suit. A good, state-of-the-art wet suit is composed of three layers -- a wicking layer, an insulation layer and the outer protective layer.

The purpose of the wicking layer is to keep the diver's skin dry. Wet skin loses heat at a much faster rate than dry skin, so the wicking layer removes moisture from the skin and transports it to the next level of material, slowing down the loss of heat from the diver's body. The insulation level slows down the heat loss considerably. There is no single, universal insulation that works for all divers under all conditions. In fact, a diver who spends a lot of time underwater in different locations and under different conditions will have a selection of wet suits to accommodate his variety of choices. There are four basic types of insulation packages ? the wooly bear (any fuzzy wool-type insulator), open-cell foam (excellent when dry, but stiff), type-B marine thinsulate (considered the best) and radiant barriers (great in space, need to be combined with one or more of the other types to be effective in water). The outer protective layer's sole purpose is to keep the inner layers dry. Polymers -- rubber and plastic conglomerates -- are often used by wet suit manufacturers for this purpose..

Breathing is something that is vital to life. It is something we all do and need to do constantly to enable us to live. If you are not doing it now then I'm sorry but you cannot continue to read this, as you are dead.

This article is not about breathing though; it is about what we breathe. Well, that is obvious, air. Yep, but let us, for a minute, think about what may be in the air we breathe.

Apart from the components of air such as oxygen, which is the bit we need, the air you breathe is full of other particles and you need to think about an air purifier to filter these potentially harmful particles out of the air or in other words purify the air. I am sure you have seen sunlight coming through you windows and when you are at a certain angle you have seen dust particles floating in the air. You breathe these in unless you can use an air purifier to remove them or hopefully most of them. Its not only dust though, people and animals drop flakes of dead skin which is why you need an air purifier. Tobacco smoke produces particles of smoke, which is why you need an air purifier, and vehicles also produce particles of smoke from their engines, which is why you need an air purifier.

So what do air purifiers do? Quite simply they filter the air that you breathe near to them. They help to purify the air and remove airborne particles. There are many different types of air purifiers and these can be systems designed to purify all the air in your entire house down to small systems which work in a single room. They filter out all sorts of things such as smoke, dust and particles of dust and dead skin from your pets. Just remember though, they cannot filter out all particles but they can purify the air fairly well.

There is another type of air purifier, the HEPA type which can filter out particles down to 3 microns in size and can catch 99.9% of these particles. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance purifiers.

There are also ozone air purifiers but some people have suggested that these may not be good for you. I do not have the answer to this but until I am convinced of their usefulness, I will stick to an HEPA filter.

Before you buy your air purifier you need to make sure it suits your needs so make sure you carry out internet research and check manufacturers brochures. Whatever you decide though, there is nothing to beat having a look at one and seeing it operating before you buy. Remember, there is nothing worse than buying an air purifier only to find out it is so noisy that you cannot be in the same room when your air purifier is operating..

Add Warmth To Your Bedroom With An Oriental Rug

When it comes to the bedroom we all know that bedding and accents are important, but a key area of bedroom design that is often overlooked is the flooring. Many people have wall to wall carpet in their bedroom and, therefore think that they are "stuck" with that color or design. The truth is that you can jazz up your flooring by simply laying a carpet on top of your wall to wall carpet.

Beautiful and durable, oriental rugs can add warmth and charm to almost any bedroom. This type of rug goes with many bedroom design styles, romantic, Victorian, shabby chic, Tuscan, Morrocan, oriental and many more.

Oriental rugs come in many different designs and colors so you should be able to find one that suits your bedroom d?cor. You can buy them in different sizes so you can add a splash of color and elegance to any part of the bedroom. You can buy them in a variety of price ranges as well, but as with anything else, the more you spend the better quality your rug will be.

A real oriental rug is hand tied - that's right each piece of wool is tied onto the backing by hand. These rugs are really works of art, and you might think they are fragile but they are actually quite durable. I have been to many antique auctions where rugs that were over 100 years old have survived to look almost as good as they day they were made.

When selecting an oriental carpet for your bedroom, you should only look at carpets that are 100% wool as these will be the best quality. To determine if the carpet you are looking at is hand or machine made there are a few things to take into consideration. First off it's good to be able to compare two rugs - one you know is machine made and one you know is hand made. Look at the backs - the hand made rug will be much more colorful than the machine made. The machine made rug will have an overall stitch pattern across the back and you won't see any knots since only hand made rugs are knotted. Another thing to look at is the fringe. On a handmade rug, the fringe is made up of the wrap strings from the end of the rug, on a machine made it is simply sewn on.

When selecting your oriental rug, make sure to choose colors that go with the colors in your bedroom. If you are placing the rug over wall to wall carpeting, it is best to choose smaller throw rugs that you can use as splashes of color around the room and avoid putting furniture on them unless you buy a large rug that covers almost the entire room.

Love the look of oriental rugs but don't want to put them on the floor? Why not try using one as a wall hanging? You can use it to jazz up a large boring wall or hang it behind the bed in lieu of a headboard.

No matter how you use them, oriental rugs add warmth and character to your bedroom or any room in the house

Adventures in Learning French

Hi, we're Ron and Kate and we're originally from England. We spent about 15 years holidaying in France before we moved here permanently. In that time we tried quite a few different ways to learn French - some of them more successful than others!

Today we get along with the French language pretty well - but there's still room for improvement so we continue to try new ideas, programs, software and books as they come along. We're also having lessons with a retired teacher who we met locally.

What we're hoping to pass on, via a series of articles, is our experiences (both our successes and our failures) in order to perhaps be of some help to those of you who are visiting France ? whether that's just for the occasional holiday, in search of a second home or moving here permanently. Here we go then?

There are many ways to learn French. Kate and I both have our preferences and you will probably need to try a couple of methods before you find what suits you best. We've found that investing in a few books and couple of CD or pc-based courses is well worth it.

However, one of the largest learning resouces is, of course, the internet and there are many ways to start to learn French online. An added bonus is that, with a little searching, you can find several sites where you can begin to learn French for free. No single site has all the answers ? and we strongly advise you to look at other methods as well - but as it won't cost you anything, why not dive in?

So where do you start? Well if you type "how to learn French" into a search engine you'll get millions of answers - far too many to list here. We're also unable to give you direct link to websites in this article but if you visit our site at www.how2learnfrench.com you can get access to a few of the places we like best such as, for example, the excellent resources of the BBC.

When you're ready to move on from the feee exercises, which can be a bit limited, you'll be looking at home-study or "distance learning" via CD, pc software, books etc. Some courses offer an interesting and entertaining mixture of medias which all help speed up learning. We'll be covering some of those in a further article and again, our website has plenty of details. We'll also look at what we think is the most effective way of learning French which, for those with pockets deep enough, is to be right here in France.

But that's for another day. In the meantime, remember that almost any learning is better than none at all. The only proviso we would give is that with a language you need to be able to hear it so as not to learn bad pronunciation habits ? this is where language CDs are at their most useful.

Until next time, good luck with it. Maybe we'll see you over here one day!.

When choosing and buying baby clothes, parents can be faced with many choices that, in the baby's younger days, can seem quite confusing. Striking a balance between practical and cute, fashionable and comfortable, need and impulse, and night and day can all play their part in affecting decisions on what baby clothes to buy, and in what quantity. All of these difficulties in choosing baby clothes are made worse by the fact that babies grow so quickly. You do not necessarily buy to fit now, but fit for the next few months if at all possible. When buying the first baby clothes, and even with follow up shopping sprees as the baby grows, it can be helpful to remember a simple division rule, a rule of three. Your baby will basically need three types of clothes: daytime clothes, night wear (or sleepwear), and clothes for going out.The baby sleepwear will likely outweigh the other categories, as sleeping is what babies spend most of their time doing in the early stages. But how do you decide what numbers to buy of each? Well, that may depend on how often you want to do laundry, but you will soon find a level that suits both your routine and the level of cleanliness and smartness you want for your baby.DaywearThe clothes you have for your baby to wear around the home should, most of all, be comfortable, easy to access for changing diapers, and simple. These are the clothing articles that your baby will spend most of her time in, so they are bound to get dirty. When the baby dribbles, brings up her milk, crawls around on the floor, or does any of the other messy baby pastimes, these clothes are going to bear the brunt of the soiling. Because of this, you will probably not want your baby to wear her best outfits, such as special gifts, around the home all the time. The best clothes for day to day needs are probably simple body suits. Onesies is a brand name, but the term has stuck as a description for this type of one piece baby wear. I seem to recall calling them growbags with my first two children, but that was because I am a keen gardener! You will probably need between five and ten of these one piece baby suits to keep on top of daily requirements.Sleepwear or NightwearBaby clothing for sleeping should meet some of the same needs as the daywear, at least in terms of comfort, and accessibility for changing. In fact, if you live in a warm climate, you may be able to get away with using similar clothes night and day. However, if you live in a colder region with colder nights, then a warmer version of the day wear would be needed, or heavier knit pyjamas or similar sleepwear. It is all common sense really, and it will not be long before your baby tells you in no uncertain terms what she is comfortable in, and cannot abide.Dressing Up For Special OccasionsFor outdoor baby wear, the parents have a chance to dress baby up to look smart and nice. This is where some of those baby shower gifts may come into their own, or the baby clothes that have taken your eye at the local department store. However, these items should still be checked for their practicality, making sure that straps, snaps, bows and so on do not interfere with diaper changing, or cause any discomfort to the baby. You can, though, show off a bit, and it won't be long before baby wants to dress up to go out. I know our baby daughter delighted in dressing up by the age of one year, and at 20 months now she struts around like a teenage fashion model as she waits to get out the front door..

When Jane Langdon decided she had to finally have a Chanel suit for a major New York Trade Show, she went on eBay and found one for $800. It was a size 8 and she was a size 12. At the trade show many women asked her where she got the suit. On the plane home, she got the idea to go into business with the seamstress and make custom designer suits for women.Jane was already in another internet business for years making alcohol free floral perfumes, House of Rose (www.houseofrose.com), so she new how to develop a website.
